MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows are reportedly on the cusp of securing a new director to steer them back to their former glory.
The capital city’s red and white giants have been linked with several prospective businessmen from outside Eswatini who have shown interest in taking over the club’s directorship.
Initial reports had suggested that prominent South African businessman Eddie Modise, based in Bloemfontein, had confirmed talks with the financially struggling ‘Birds’. The club is desperately seeking investors to help them regain stability.
The ‘Birds’ management committee (MC) has openly expressed their desperate search for a suitor, especially following their lacklustre performance last season.
inviting
It was reported that Umkhonto KaShaka, as Swallows are affectionately known, had issued a call to action, inviting anyone willing to inject funds into the team to come forward, even reportedly setting their asking price for a directorship stake at E3 million.
More recently, sources from the ‘Birds’ nest revealed that a Mozambican businessman was in discussions with the club to become their new director.
The latest developments, according to these sources, indicate that the Mozambican tycoon, who is based in Brazil, is now closer to becoming Swallows’ new boss, having agreed terms with the current MC.
“It is now an open secret that all that’s left between Swallows and the Mozambican investor is paperwork,” the source revealed.
The source clarified that the Mozambican is in talks with the Absalom ‘Mvana’ Ngwenya-led MC, who are keen to restore the club’s glorious past.
Meanwhile, Swallows’ Public Relations Officer (PRO) Knowledge ‘Bhambo’ Ngwenya was recently quoted stating that the team’s Advisory Committee and Board of Trustees are currently engaging a number of interested investors to financially rescue the team.
calm
He also urged the Swallows family to remain calm and patient, promising that new developments would be communicated at the appropriate time.
Moreover, Mbabane Swallows Pty/Ltd are also known to be in the running to rejuvenate the team and they have confirmed their desire to come on board and speed up the crucial reinforcement process during this timely off-season period.
They recently gave the current management a five-day ultimatum to hand the team back to them, which has already expired.
