MBABANE – Recently-unveiled Mbabane Swallows Coach Dario Monteiro has explained the reason for his prolonged absence.
Despite being unveiled as the glamour side’s new gaffer just last month, the former Mamelodi Sundowns striker has not assumed his new duties here in Eswatini. He was unveiled at Sigwaca House in Mbabane before Swallows Acting President Absalom Ngwenya, Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Board of Governors (BoGs) Member Welile Mabuza, investor Niczar Amade and the club’s supporters. Interestingly, during the unveiling, Monteiro, who is also known as Alberto Jesus, was said to be joining the team on a two-year contract with an option to renew.
In an unexpected twist, the soccer legend has told this publication that he is still in Mozambique because he does not have a contract with Swallows.
“I can’t get a work permit without a contract. I’m still waiting, as management is yet to give me a contract. I do want to coach Swallows because they are big team, but right now I don’t know if I will return to Eswatini,” he said.
This uncertainty comes at a time when Swallows should be rebuilding the team in preparation for the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup late this month.
