NGABEZWENI – His Majesty King Mswati III has urged the National Commissioner of Police, Vusi Manoma Masango, to ensure that all guns are registered before they can be used at Butimba.
The King conveyed this message to Masango during the commissioning of Butimba at Ngabezweni Royal Residence yesterday.
“National Commissioner of Police Vusi Manoma Masango, make sure that all guns are registered accordingly before they can be used at Butimba,” the King stated through Indvuna Qomentanyeni Magagula.
It is worth noting that Eswatini laws prohibit the unlawful and wrongful possession of guns.
Also, the national commissioner of police is passionate about the registration of guns as the country subscribes to Agenda 2063, which is an aspiration for Africa to remain as a strong, united, resilient and influential global player and partner in silencing guns.
Butimba, also known as the Royal Expedition, is a cultural activity during which warriors leave the comfort of their homes to hunt game. It is considered as important as the annual Incwala Ceremony and Reed Dance (Umhlanga), among other national events, as it forms part of the country’s official events calendar.
However, the event does not take place on a yearly basis, as the country values the preservation of nature.
The event normally takes place after four or five years. Interviewed warriors noted that Butimba occurs prior to the annual Reed Dance (Umhlanga) on the national events calendar.
The King also mentioned that the warriors will camp at Mafutseni Royal Kraal before proceeding to Hlane today.
“The King wishes you a safe journey until he sees you tomorrow,” Magagula said.
