MBABANE – Eswatini’s youth national darts team has hoisted the country’s flag high at the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region V Darts Confederation Youth Games.
The competition, which featured 16 players from Eswatini, took place from Tuesday to yesterday, at the Amai Mugabe Group of Schools in Mazowe, Zimbabwe. The Under-15 boys and girls teams both secured gold medals in the team events. According to the local podium incentive policy, a gold medal is worth E20 000, while a silver amounts to E10 000.
This means the victorious team will share the E20 000 prize, as confirmed by Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Darius Dlomo.
“I am yet to receive the full report but have heard we have gold in Zimbabwe. Achieving good results is all we want from our athletes,” he said.
The Under-15 girls team—comprised of Temnotfo Ndzingane, Siphosethu Anderson, Senzelwe Fakudze and Neliswa Fakudze—defeated Zimbabwe 9-7 in the first round. Their male counterparts, Misasive Gamedze, Banele Matse, Khetselo Mntjali and Mehluli Mkhonta, had a strong start, thrashing Zimbabwe 12-4 in their first-round match, which contributed significantly to their overall victory.
