MBABANE – His Majesty the King, has appointed Shiselweni Regional Administrator Themba Masuku as head of the SADC Electoral Observation Mission in Malawi.
Masuku, who served as deputy prime minister (DPM) in the previous administration, will observe the elections slated for September 16, 2025.
“It has pleased His Majesty King Mswati III, King and Ingwenyama of the Kingdom of Eswatini to appoint Honourable Themba N. Masuku, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Eswatini as the Head of Mission for the SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) to the Republic of Malawi for its general elections scheduled for September 16, 2025,” said Senator Pholile Shakantu, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
His Majesty appointed Masuku in his capacity as the incoming Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation (TROIKA).
Senator Shakantu stated that His Majesty’s appointment of Masuku to observe the general elections in Malawi underscored the kingdom of Eswatini’s steadfast commitment to upholding the principles of democracy, peace and regional integration within the SADC framework.
She said Masuku will lead a delegation tasked with ensuring that Malawi’s electoral process adheres to the highest standards of transparency, credibility and fairness, in alignment with the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections.
