MBABANE – In the financial year (FY) 2024/25, total revenue at current prices generated by the telecommunications industry continued its upward trend.
According to the Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) annual report, the sector’s revenues increased by 6 per cent to E2 708 107 594 from E2 567 611 989 in FY 2023/24.
This growth was driven by strong performance from both Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Fixed Network Operators (FNOs). MNO revenue rose by 5 per cent, reaching E2 338 122162 compared to E2 218 437 877 in the previous year, while FNO revenue increased to E369 985 432 from E349 174 111 in FY 2023/24.
In FY 2024/25, employment in the telecoms industry showed a modest recovery, increasing by 0.3 per cent to 957 employees, up from 954 in FY 2023/24.
This slight growth was primarily driven by a 3 per cent rise in employment among fixed network operators, which climbed to 691 from 668 in the previous year.
In contrast, mobile network operators experienced a 7 per cent decline in their workforce, dropping to 266 employees from 286.
