MBABANE – A lucrative E200 000 has been allocated towards the Killarney Sports Ground facelift.
The renovations are in full force before the massive MTN Premier League clash between Malanti Chiefs and Mbabane Highlanders. For years, the Killarney Sports Ground stands had evidently been an accident waiting to happen, with more holes than Swiss cheese in the planked seating areas. The game is scheduled for tomorrow, with a 3pm kick-off.
As per pictures circulating on social media, the revamp includes the fixing of stands and fencing around the area. Impeccable sources confirmed that a mouth-watering E200 000 has been allocated towards the same, which marks phase one of the renovations. Constructors are expected to start working on shelter at the ground, however, games will continue playing.
Inkunz’emnyama are visiting the intimate and often testing confines of this venue for the very first time. Alternatively, Premier League returnees Malanti are preparing for a colossal showdown as they look to preserve their impressive unbeaten start to the season.
It is said that the Pigg’s Peak Town Council agreed to host one game per week until the completion of renovations.
Highlanders President and flamboyant South African businesswoman Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize reportedly visited Pigg’s Peak on Tuesday, where she met the constituency’s Member of Parliament Jabulani ‘Buy Cash’ Mabuza, Pigg’s Peak Mayor Sipho ‘Kwena’ Shongwe and councillors. Killarney Stadium is owned and managed by the Pigg’s Peak Town Council.
This followed reports suggesting that there was a debate as to whether the game against Bafana Bemboyi would be played on Saturday or Sunday. Regardless, Sunday was deemed the perfect day, with Mkhize set to allegedly open a supporters’ branch in Pigg’s Peak today.
Further reports suggest that tight security in the form of OSSU would be made available. OSSU Eswatini stands for the Operational Support Services Unit, which is a specialised, paramilitary wing of the Royal Eswatini Police Service.
It is a tactical unit trained for high-risk situations, including anti-riot operations, manhunts and special missions, and its members undergo rigorous training.
