MBABANE – Eswatini’s only Video Match Official, Letticia Viana, has taken another significant step towards possible selection for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Viana has been named among officials selected for the Video Match Officials (VMO) Seminar to be held in Doha in February 2026. The Doha seminar forms part of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) final assessment and preparation phase ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted jointly by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico. Participation places Viana among a small, elite group still under consideration for football’s biggest global tournament.

Viana is currently in Morocco, where she has been officiating at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations. Her assignments at the tournament have included high-profile matches such as DR Congo versus Benin, Benin against Botswana, Tanzania versus Tunisia, Egypt versus Benin, Algeria versus Nigeria, and Senegal versus Egypt, further strengthening her international profile under CAF.

Under the Confederation of African Football (CAF), only nine VMOs have been selected for the Doha seminar. From the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, Viana and South Africa’s Abongile Tom are the only representatives, highlighting the significance of her inclusion at continental level.
