EZULWINI – Young Buffaloes’ Vice Captain Bongwa Matsebula has been named the MTN Premier League finest player for the month of December.
Matsebula was awarded for his standout performance in the third month of the current campaign yesterday morning at the Mahlalekhukwini House at Ezulwini. He was presented with a replica cheque of E7 000 and a trophy by MTN Eswatini Marketing Manager Phumla Motsa and Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pat Vilakati.
This achievement puts the army side’s wing attacker in the running for the Player of the Season award, which already features log leaders’ Captain Neliswa ‘Tiger’ Dlamini and Rangers’ Hleliso Gamedze. Dlamini and Gamedze were crowned Player of the Month in November and October, respectively.
Other contenders for last month’s award were Manzini Sea Birds’ attacking midfielder, Philani ‘Mkasabuli’ Mkhonto, who was runner-up, while Hotspurs’ defensive midfielder, Ade Adeleke, came third.
The winner was grateful for the award and attributed it to teamwork. He believed his lone strike, which earned them a much-needed victory against defending champions, Nsingizini and single goal in the 4-1 thrashing of newcomers, Amawele last month made him named the outstanding player.
He also admitted that the team had not started well into the season, but said hard work had seen them become consistent, eventually recording five consecutive victories, which had lifted them from sixth spot into the top four bracket.
He said the award further challenges him to work harder for the badge, as he looks to bounce back into the national team, Sihlangu.
