MBABANE – Nsingizini Hotspurs’ standout sensation Kwakhe ‘Stopper’ Thwala’s dream has come true, if reports from Zimbabwe are anything to go by.

This follows a reported two-year deal offered to the star after he jetted out of the country for an assessment with Zimbabwe’s most ambitious outfit: The newly-crowned champions, Scottland FC.

Well-informed sources in Zimbabwe confirmed that Thwala has been offered such a deal alongside a E50 000 possible salary and over E100 000 signing-on fee, giving him no option but to commit.

Thwala departed via King Mswati III International Airport earlier last week, landing safely in Zimbabwe, where he attended training and reportedly impressed the technical bench led by the esteemed Norman Mapeza.

The side is owned by gold magnate and politician Pedzisayi ‘Scott’ Sakupwanya.Scottland FC have rapidly evolved into the financial powerhouse of Zimbabwean football.

Often dubbed the ‘Mamelodi Sundowns of Zimbabwe’ due to their aggressive recruitment and massive sponsorship backing, they are reportedly valued at over E220 million (US$12 million). In 2025 alone, the club secured roughly E82 million (US$5 million) in deals from sponsors, including Sakunda Holdings and Better Brands.

The club’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric, making history by clinching the 2025 Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League (ZPSL) title in their debut season. To celebrate the feat, players were reportedly gifted cars as a token of appreciation.

Thwala joins a roster of genuine Southern African stars. Scottland FC have specialised in luring stars back from the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL). They include Knowledge ‘The Smiling Assassin’ Musona. The former national captain joined in August 2025 and is arguably the league’s biggest draw, reportedly earning over E140 000 per month.

There is also Khama Billiat, the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs maestro, who was the club’s first marquee signing, reportedly earning E108 000 (US$6 000) monthly.

Terrence Dzvukamanja was also a high-profile arrival from defunct South Africa’s SuperSport United and also had a stint with Orlando Pirates.

The financial incentive for Thwala could be staggering. Reports from iHarare News and FarPost indicate that the lowest-paid player at Scottland earns an estimated E50 000 (US$3 000), while signing-on fees for top stars can reach E300 000.

Thwala’s Zimbabwean quest came amid significant interest from elsewhere. The former Sihlangu captain was earlier linked with Mozambican giants Costa do Sol, who recently tabled an offer exceeding E100 000. However, he has seemingly brushed that reported bid aside.
