MBABANE – Major boost.

Nkwene Sundowns’ attacking midfielder Majaha ‘Major’ Mdlovu has been officially crowned the MulaSport National First Division (NFD) Player of the Month for January. The rising star was presented with a trophy and a cash prize of E2 500 at the MulaSport offices in Manzini yesterday.

The presentation was attended by high-ranking officials, including Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pat ‘Kungumusa’ Vilakati and MulaSport Marketing Manager Phetsile Xulu.

Speaking at the event, Vilakati expressed his gratitude for MulaSport’s continued investment in the NFD. He highlighted the division’s vital role as a bridge to the MTN Premier League, noting that the NFD prepares players for the rigours of elite-level football.

“It is rare for a player to jump straight from regional leagues and thrive in the Premier League,” Vilakati remarked. “We are grateful to MulaSport for their partnership and urge the public to support them. They are not a charity; they need a return on investment to continue nurturing the next generation of talent.”

Vilakati pointed to the recent success of Simphiwe ‘Kew’ Mabuza, who moved from Viva Stumbo XI to Nsingizini Hotspurs, as evidence of the talent pipeline. He also hinted at upcoming PLE projects requiring NFD clubs to field a specific number of youth players to bolster the national team, Sihlangu Semnikati.

While congratulating both Mdlovu and Nkwene Sundowns, Vilakati revealed that the NFD ‘carrot’ (first-round incentive) winner would be announced later this week. MulaSport’s Xulu echoed these sentiments, praising the PLE’s initiative to recognise individual brilliance.
