MBABANE – Dominance!
This describes Team Germany at the Ka-Schiele High School inter-house championships, which were held at the Prince of Wales Sports Ground on Wednesday. The school, situated a few kilometres from the city centre, has intensified its preparations for the upcoming 2026 ESSA Athletics competitions.
According to the Eswatini Schools Sports Association (ESSA) 2026 calendar, which was approved by all branches in a meeting held at Mfanyana Hall, Manzini Central High School early this month, the athletics competitions at branch level have been scheduled for March 9-13.
According to the results released by the school yesterday, Team Germany dominated the internal championships, dethroning defending champions England. The team, which is composed mainly of pupils from KS, accumulated 261 points overall in the field events.
Coming second was Team United States of America (USA), which pocketed 189 points, with Team France claiming the third spot on 185 points. The dethroned champions, Team England, were relegated to the fourth and last spot after amassing 174 points.
Speaking during the internal competitions, sports teacher Jabulani Mavuso declared that they are going all out to defend the branch title, which they have won twice in a row.
“I am not entirely happy with the pupils’ performance yet, but we are going back to training hard as our aim is to win the Mbabane branch inter-schools competition for the third year running,” Mavuso said.
The towering educator said they would engage the school management to allocate more time for the pupils to prepare for the upcoming competitions.
On the other hand, Athletics Eswatini (AE) Communications Officer Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini, who is also a teacher at the school, said he was happy with the performance of the pupils. However, he expressed that they will step up their training so they can defend the Mbabane branch inter-schools competition for the third year running.
