NHLANGANO – A Hlatikhulu Galp Filling Station supervisor is fighting for his life in hospital after he was allegedly stabbed multiple times by his girlfriend, following a row over a newborn baby.

Khumbuzile Ngcamphalala (25) appeared before Senior Magistrate Joseph Dlamini in the Shiselweni Magistrates Court, where she was remanded in custody facing a charge of attempted murder.

The incident, which has left the community in shock, reportedly took place on March 16, 2026, at Mjiza (Skom). Ngcamphalala, of Sibhowe, is accused of intentionally assaulting Sibusiso Simelane and stabbing him with a sharp object several times on his body and neck with  intent to kill him.

While the specific details of the altercation were not formally discussed in open court during her initial appearance, information obtained from sources suggests the violence was sparked by baby mama drama.

Ngcamphalala was ordered to remain in custody until April 1, 2026, pending her committal to the High Court. She has been advised to approach the High Court, should she wish to apply for bail.

According to a source close to the matter, Simelane is currently admitted to Hlatikhulu Government Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition. The source further alleged that the incident took place at the supervisor’s rented flat. It is claimed that Ngcamphalala, who works at a mobile spaza in Hlatikhulu town, confronted Simelane, asking why he was ‘making a fool’ of her.

The dispute allegedly arose after the mother of Simelane’s newborn child brought the baby to the flat earlier that day, to allow him to see the infant for the first time. Sources allege that this encounter enraged Ngcamphalala. In the ensuing confrontation, she allegedly seized a kitchen knife and stabbed Simelane in the neck, before further stabbing him on his hands and arms.

It is further alleged by sources that the complainant collapsed to the floor and began bleeding profusely. Upon realising the gravity of the injuries, Ngcamphalala reportedly began to cry and allegedly mopped blood from the floor. However, she then allegedly grabbed Simelane’s mobile phone and fled, leaving him alone on the floor.

The injured supervisor reportedly heard someone outside the property and managed to call for help. A colleague discovered him and secured transport to Hlatikhulu Government Hospital.
