MANZINI – Floodlights glowed over Manzini, as applause echoed through MulaSport offices, where a red-hot forward was rewarded for a blistering March scoring streak.
Magwanyana’s in-form striker Phiwokwakhe ‘Shalulile’ Matsebula has set his sights firmly on a 20-goal milestone after being crowned MulaSport National First Division (NFD) Player of the Month for March, pocketing E2 500.
Matsebula received the accolade from Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chief Executive Officer Pat ‘Kungumusa’ Vilakati, alongside MulaSport Marketing Manager Phetsile Xulu at the sponsor’s Manzini offices yesterday.
Nicknamed ‘Shalulile’ after prolific Namibian forward Peter Shalulile, the Mamelodi Sundowns talisman renowned for his clinical finishing and relentless movement, Matsebula has embraced the comparison. Much like his namesake, he has built a reputation for sharp positioning in the box and an eye for goal that continues to trouble defenders across the National First Division.
The Magwanyana hitman is already within touching distance of his personal target, having netted 12 goals in 21 matches, complemented by an impressive 12 assists this season.
“I am truly happy to have earned this award. To me it is motivation to continue working hard,” he said. “I thank my teammates and coaches because this would not have been possible without them. I am targeting 20 goals this season and believe that is achievable since only eight remain.”
His March form proved decisive. Matsebula struck four goals in three matches, including a brace in one outing, while also providing an assist. His consistency saw him edge out strong competition from Nkwene Sundowns’ Colani Gwebu and All Nations’ Zakhele Dlamini.
