MBABANE – The internal struggle for the soul of Mbabane Swallows shows no signs of abating.
The club’s two opposing factions are again locked in a fierce dispute over authority and legitimacy. The latest flashpoint involves an urgent general meeting scheduled for Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the Mater Dolorosa High School Hall. Announced via a press statement released on behalf of the Board of Directors, elders and supporters, the gathering is presented as a ‘family’ initiative aimed at finding solutions to the mammoth challenges that have hampered the club’s progress in recent years.
Vusi Sibisi, representing the Board of Directors, underlined the strategic importance of the meeting, stating: “At the core of the crisis facing Mbabane Swallows is the division between Mbabane Swallows FC (Pty) Ltd and a faction operating under the umbrella of a voluntary association. It is envisaged that at the end of the day, unity shall prevail.”
However, this meeting has been flatly rejected by the competing Mbabane Swallows FC faction. Dismissing the event as the work of illegitimate actors, Public Relations Officer Knowledge ‘Bhambo’ Ngwenya stated, “At Mbabane Swallows FC management structures, we do not have a person of Sibisi’s calibre with the authority to call a supporters’ meeting. I cannot comment on unknown people with ulterior motives to cause instability.”
This rift stems from a volatile backdrop of accusations. Mbabane Swallows (Pty) Ltd has previously launched scathing attacks against the voluntary association, warning supporters that a recent membership registration exercise was an illegitimate scheme.
Despite the (Pty) Ltd board citing a February 2026 Registrar of Companies letter to bolster their claim as the only entity entitled to use the Swallows trademark, the FC faction remains defiant.
