THE Eswatini Tourism Authority (ETA) is hosting a select group of internation¬al tour operators (Sunday July 27, to August 1, 2025). This immersive educational trip aims to highlight the kingdom’s rich cultural heritage, stunning natural beauty and burgeoning tourism potential.

The initiative is a strategic move to deepen global trade partnerships and elevate Eswatini’s international profile as a premier boutique, culturally rich and sustainable travel destination in southern Africa. Operators from key markets including the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Uganda and Botswana will participate in this vital familiarisation tour.

“This initiative is a strategic move to position Eswatini as a must-visit destination in southern Africa,” said ETA Chief Executive Officer, Vusie Dlamini. “By hosting this group of seasoned operators, we’re giving them first-hand experiences that will inform how they market and package Eswatini to their clients globally.”

The participating companies rep¬resent diverse segments of the travel industry, from luxury bespoke jour¬neys to eco-conscious safaris:

• Only One Travel (Tokyo, Nai¬robi): Specialises in luxurious, story-driven itineraries promis¬ing ‘life-changing’ experiences.

• Tailored Journeys (UK): A lux¬ury holiday specialist known for authentic, custom-made travel grounded in local expertise.

• Kalahari Calling (Germany): Offers individualised self-drive and guided tours across southern Africa, from camping to high-end lodges.

• Go Zuid Afrika (Netherlands, Belgium): Unveils Africa’s hid¬den gems through deeply person¬alised itineraries.

• Nyanja Safaris (UK, Zambia): Focuses on tailor-made eco-safa¬ris supporting conservation and authentic experiences.

• Gazelle Safari Company (East and Southern Africa): Provides full-service destination manage¬ment and custom tours, including MICE services, with a strong emphasis on sustainability.

• Meme Africa Travels (specialis¬ing in sustainable eco-tourism): Fosters deep community en¬gagement through sensory travel experiences.

• Upside Travel & Tours (Botswa¬na): Curates dream itineraries across business and leisure sec¬tors.

Over the six days, the participants will embark on a comprehensive journey across Eswatini’s cultural heartlands, wildlife reserves, craft markets and scenic landscapes.

The carefully curated programme balances exploration with cultural education, allowing operators to engage with Eswatini’s culinary, artistic and eco-tourism initiatives.

They will enjoy traditional Swati performances, meet local artisans and witness the kingdom’s con¬servation successes, particularly its rhino protection efforts. This hands-on approach aims to provide a trade-ready perspective of what makes Eswatini a distinctive and compelling destination.

With thousands of clients across high-value markets in Europe, Asia and Africa, these tour operators are ideally positioned to incor¬porate Eswatini into bespoke and luxury southern Africa itineraries. Their first-hand experiences are expected to translate into enriched travel products, improved mar¬keting content and stronger trade relationships.

The ETA anticipates that the familiarisation tour will lead to strengthened global partnerships, increased tourism bookings and greater visibility for Eswatini in top-tier travel markets. Dlamini says by inviting these curated industry players to explore Eswatini for themselves, they are positioning Eswatini for mean¬ingful growth and long-term col¬laboration.  He believes that each operator will leave with deeper insights and new ideas that bring more travellers to our borders.

Their storytelling after this visit will be instrumental in reaching new audiences

This programme forms part of ETA’s broader post-pandemic strat¬egy to expand Eswatini’s tourism footprint in high-value markets and foster regional collaborations that promote sustainable travel.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR EMASWATI TO LEVERAGE

This ETA initiative presents a key opening for emaSwati entrepre¬neurs and businesses to integrate into the global tourism value chain. The influx of influential tour operators creates direct and indirect op¬portunities across various sectors.

Direct tourism service providers:

Accommodation: Hotels, lodges, guesthouses, boutique hotels and unique eco-lodges (like those list¬ed in the itinerary) should prepare for increased bookings. Smaller, locally-owned establishments have a chance to shine and secure direct contracts with these international operators.
