AT Gobholo, where the hills roll and the roads twist, one man’s bond with his vehicle has become the talk of the town. This week, our ‘My Car & I’ spotlight falls on Melusi Nxumalo, proud owner of a navy-blue VW Polo 4, a car that has been more than just a ride for the past three years.
The beginning of the journey

Back in 2023, Nxumalo got his hands on the 1.4 engine Polo. What started as a simple purchase quickly turned into a reliable partnership. “It’s a real fuel saver,” he says, smiling, “plus, if you treat it right, it will never let you down.” In an economy where every cent counts, this Polo has proved itself a steady companion, stretching fuel tanks further than most expect. He named his ride ‘Khuzwayo’, which he says comes from the fact that it enters spaces you would not even imagine.

Performance and personality
The Polo’s 1.4 engine may not roar like a monster truck, but it sure knows how to deliver efficiency without compromise. Nxumalo swears by its balance of power and endurance. “It is patient on the road,” he notes, using the phrase to describe how the car endures even the longest trips when handled with care and yes, the colour matters too, navy-blue. It’s sleek, commanding and gives the compact ride a touch of class.

More than metal
After three years together, the Polo is more than a machine, it’s a partner that reflects Melusi’s rhythm of life; steady, enduring and efficient. The Polo has kept him moving forward, tank by tank, mile by mile.
