Many people pray for change, growth and a better life, yet year after year, they remain in the same place. The truth is, while they desire transformation, they often refuse to change their environment. Your environment is more powerful than you think. It shapes your thoughts, influences your habits and ultimately determines your destiny.
You can have great potential, but if you stay in the wrong surroundings, that potential will never flourish. Just as a seed cannot grow on concrete, your spirit cannot thrive in an atmosphere that does not nourish your purpose. When God called Abraham, He said: “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you” (Genesis 12:1).
God was not only changing Abraham’s location; He was also changing his environment. The promise God had for Abraham could not be fulfilled where he was. In the same way, your next level often requires a new atmosphere. There are places and associations that served you for a season but cannot take you where God wants you to go next.
Changing your environment does not always mean moving to a new city or church. Sometimes it means changing what surrounds your heart and mind. If you spend your time in places or with people who weaken your faith, discourage your dreams or fill your spirit with negativity, your growth will be stunted. The Bible says in Proverbs 13:20: “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” The company you keep determines the quality of your growth.
You cannot expect to soar like an eagle, while spending all your time with those who refuse to leave the ground. Sometimes, changing your environment means surrounding yourself with people who inspire you to pray more, believe more and live better. It could mean turning your home into a place of peace – filling it with worship, prayer and the Word of God. It might mean letting go of old habits that no longer serve your purpose. Change is never comfortable, but comfort and growth rarely go together.
Elevation requires separation. Every step upward begins with a decision to move out of what is familiar. Do not wait for everything to be perfect before you make a change. Start where you are. Choose peace over chaos, faith over fear and growth over comfort. When you change your environment, you will begin to notice a shift in your thinking, your energy and your outlook on life. Romans 12:2 reminds us: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Transformation begins with a change of environment – an atmosphere that allows God to renew, restore and reposition you for His glory. When you change your environment, you change your experience and when you change your experience, your entire life begins to move in a new direction. Step into the place where your faith can grow, your purpose can breathe and your destiny can unfold.
