For many, fitness is a seasoned goal, often pursued in short bursts and abandoned just as quickly. But for Khulani Shongwe, it has become a way of life.

Shongwe’s journey into fitness began at a young age, long before it became a trend or a social media statement. What started as a simple interest in staying active gradually grew into a disciplined lifestyle that continues to shape his daily routine.

“I started working out when I was still very young,” he said. “At first, it was just about keeping busy and staying out of trouble, but over time I realised how much it improved not just my body, but also my mindset.”

Over the years, Shongwe has remained consistent, a quality he believes is key to achieving any fitness goal. He notes that results do not come overnight, but through patience, dedication and a willingness to push beyond one’s limits.

“Fitness teaches you discipline. There are days when you don’t feel like training, but you show up anyway. That’s what builds strength, both physically and mentally,” he explained.

His routine includes a mix of strength training, cardio and proper nutrition, all of which he considers essential components of a healthy lifestyle. However, he emphasised that fitness is not about perfection, but about progress.

“You don’t have to be the best or lift the heaviest weights. What matters is that you keep going and improve yourself little by little,” he said.

Shongwe also highlighted the importance of starting early and staying committed. According to him, building healthy habits at a young age makes it easier to maintain them later in life.

“Once fitness becomes part of who you are, it’s no longer a struggle. It becomes something you enjoy and look forward to,” he added.

Beyond the physical benefits, he credits his fitness journey for boosting his confidence, reducing stress and helping him maintain a positive outlook on life.

“Exercise is my therapy. It helps me clear my mind and stay focused,” he said.

To those who may be hesitant to begin their own fitness journey, the 33-year-old Shongwe offered simple advice: Start where you are, use what you have and remain consistent.

“Don’t wait for the perfect time. Just start. Even small steps can lead to big changes over time,” he encouraged.
