Young people in Malkerns are being given a renewed opportunity to shape their future through business and innovation following the official launch of the Malkerns Youth Entrepreneurship Development Programme.
The initiative, launched by the Malkerns Town Council, in partnership with ENtrepreneurial ACTion for US (ENACTUS) Eswatini, seeks to empower 15 young people from the area through entrepreneurship training, mentorship and practical business development support over a 12-month period.
The programme forms part of broader efforts aimed at addressing the country’s high unemployment rate by equipping youth with the tools and confidence needed to create sustainable livelihoods through entrepreneurship.
Speaking during the launch, the mayor of Malkerns reaffirmed the council’s commitment to creating an enabling environment that promotes youth empowerment, economic participation and community development.
The mayor noted that investing in young people remains key to building stronger communities and stimulating local economic growth, adding that entrepreneurship presents an important pathway for young people to become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to the economy.
Representatives from ENACTUS also assured participants of continuous support throughout the programme, encouraging them to remain committed and open to learning as they begin their entrepreneurial journey.
… programme moves into action
Following the launch, the programme immediately moved into action with a week-long entrepreneurial training workshop successfully conducted for the 15 participants. The training, facilitated by ENACTUS together with various partners, focused on equipping the youth with valuable business knowledge, entrepreneurial skills and practical insights necessary for running successful enterprises.
During the sessions, Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS) engaged participants on taxation and its relationship with business operations. The session helped young entrepreneurs understand the importance of tax compliance, financial responsibility and proper business management practices.
Meanwhile, Eswatini National Youth Council delivered an inspiring session on mindset change, encouraging participants to embrace innovation, resilience and positive thinking as future business leaders.
Participants were also encouraged to identify opportunities within their communities and develop solutions that can create both income and social impact.
The Malkerns Youth Entrepreneurship Development Programme continues to stand as a symbol of hope and opportunity for young people in the area. Through impactful partnerships, mentorship and meaningful learning opportunities, the initiative aims to inspire and empower the next generation of entrepreneurs while contributing to a brighter and more sustainable future for the youth of Malkerns.
