Region V gold in sight for Eswatini darts

GABORONE-Eswatini darts youth national team are just inches away from securing gold on the regional stage.

The Under-25s duo of Sandziso Nhleko and Mbali Sihlongonyane is through to the final after a dominant 3-0 win over Zambia. Neliswa Mhlanga and Siphamandla Dladla’s run ended in the semi-finals with a 3-0 loss to Zambia. This transpired as African Union Sports Union (AUSC) Region V action continues here at the Aquamarine Tide Hotel, Gaborone. However, at the time of compiling this report details of when the final matches would be played were yet to be confirmed. The Zambian nation joined today on August 27 after missing the opening session of team events.

The official opening ceremony of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region V games was held on Tuesday, marking the start of this prestigious competition. Initially, five nations kicked off this competition including Eswatini. The locals are competing against players from Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa and Namibia.

Meanwhile, day one of action in Gaborone held on Wednesday August 26, brought highs and lows for Team Eswatini. Senior Men bounced back in style, cruising to a 23-13 win over Namibia after a 12-24 defeat to Botswana.

The team events continued yesterday with Eswatini senior men suffering a 30-6 defeat to South Africa (SA). This result showed an improved as the Kingdom recorded only a single point when SA beat them 31-1 at home in 2024. They were yet to face Zimbabwe to complete their group stage matches at the time of compiling this report.
