MANZINI – His Majesty King Mswati III has left the country this morning through the King Mswati III International Airport for New York, United States, where he is expected to represent Eswatini at the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The King was accompanied by Inkhosikati LaNgangaza.
His departure comes ahead of the high-level General Debate, which begins on Tuesday, September 22, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The General Debate brings together heads of state and government and senior representatives from the United Nations’ 193 member states to deliberate on major international issues.
The 81st session officially opened on September 8, with the high-level week scheduled for September 22 to 29. The General Debate will run from September 22 to 26 before resuming on September 28.
This year’s General Debate is being held under the theme, “Restoring trust, managing transformation: a United Nations that delivers for all.”
Discussions are expected to focus on major global issues, including international peace and security, sustainable development, climate change and emerging challenges linked to technological development and artificial intelligence.
The high-level week will also feature meetings on climate action, sea-level rise, pandemic prevention and preparedness, development and nuclear disarmament.
King Mswati III’s participation follows his attendance at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in September 2025, where he addressed the General Debate in New York.
His participation at this year’s gathering provides Eswatini with an opportunity to engage with other countries on issues of national, regional and international importance.
