Motruck Nissan Eswatini has officially launched the all-new Nissan Tekton, marking what is described as a new era for the Nissan brand in the local market. The launch comes as Nissan advances its SUV-led resurgence in southern Africa. Inspired by the flagship Nissan Patrol, the Tekton is designed to bring bold styling, generous space and new technology to the compact SUV segment.
Motruck’s New Vehicle Sales Manager, Zuleka Daude, said the dealership was excited about the brand’s prospects. “We have confidence in the Nissan brand, in the local market and what lies ahead. For us here at Nissan Motruck Eswatini we are incredibly excited to be part of the Nissan journey.”
Sheila from WesBank outlined financing options available to prospective buyers, including a balloon payment option and a payment holiday. “Our balloon payment goes all the way up to 30 per cent, starting from 10 per cent of the value of the vehicle. We also have a few products at WesBank like the 2-month payment holiday we currently have, so if you didn’t plan to buy the Tekton, we are here to assist you drive off with the car today and start paying us in two months.” Motruck Sales Executive Gift Mahlalela also took customers through the Tekton’s features.
Patrol-inspired design
The Tekton draws on Nissan’s 75-year SUV heritage, with a design that takes cues from the Patrol. Its exterior features sculpted lines, muscular wheel arches, flush roof rails and a wide grille with chrome accents.
C-shaped LED headlamps and daytime running lights define the front, while connected C-shaped LED tail lamps and a contrast skid plate shape the rear. All models have LED lights at the front and rear. A squared-off bonnet, prominent fenders and a 212 mm ground clearance add to its SUV stance. Buyers can choose 17-inch or 18-inch wheels.
Turbo-petrol engines
The Tekton range will be offered with two turbo-petrol engine options. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine produces 74 kW and 160 Nm of torque and is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The 1.3-litre four-cylinder produces 120 kW and 260 Nm, sent to the front wheels through a dual-clutch transmission.
Space and connectivity
Inside, the Tekton combines everyday practicality with a 700-litre luggage compartment. Folding the rear seats increases capacity to 1 789 litres.
Every model comes with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a digital instrument cluster. The cabin also features an e-shifter and paddle shifters. An electronic parking brake is fitted to all versions except the Visia 1.0.
Higher-spec Tekna and Tekna+ models add dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, push-button start, ventilated front seats, leatherette upholstery and a powered driver’s seat. The Tekna+ also offers a powered tailgate, while an exclusive two-tone exterior paint scheme is available on higher grades.
Safety and driver assistance
Standard safety equipment across the range includes six airbags, electronic stability control, ABS, all-round disc brakes, hill-start assist, rear parking sensors, a reversing camera and tyre-pressure monitoring.
Higher grades add a Multi View Camera, rain-sensing wipers and driver-assistance features. These include Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Traffic Sign Recognition, Front Collision Warning with Autonomous Emergency Braking and Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control.
The Eswatini launch forms part of Nissan’s broader African strategy, which the company says is guided by its customer-focused vision, “Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life”. Jordi Vila, President of Nissan Africa, described the continent as a market with significant potential and South Africa as a gateway to the wider “African Century”.
