MBABANE – Is Tanzanian outfit Tabora United’s midfield maestro Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze poised for a sensational return to local football?
Speculation is rife after the former Mbabane Swallows crowd-pleaser was spotted at Green Mamba’s training base in Matsapha since the start of the week.
A source close to the Correctional Services side alleged that the player was experiencing challenges with Tabora United in Tanzania.
“It is an open secret that ‘Pupu’ is not happy at his team in Tanzania and I have heard that his agent is still trying to sort out the challenges he is facing,” the source disclosed.
It is worth noting that the national team Sihlangu player joined Tabora United on a two-year contract from Mbabane Highlanders, reportedly for a E100 000 signing-on fee and a E50 000 monthly salary. He signed with the Tanzanian side at the start of the 2024/25 season, meaning he has a year remaining in his contract.
‘Pupu’s presence at the Ernest Mavuso-led side was confirmed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mandla Sibiya, who was, however, quick to highlight that the player had requested to train with them while awaiting his return to Tanzania.
“He requested to train with us just to keep fit, not that he has joined us,” Sibiya briefly stated.
