SIKHUPHE – Just three months later, Eswatini’s sensational swimmer Luca Fraser’s suspension has been lifted without conditions.

This development was communicated by mediator and lawyer Zakhele Dlamini. The latter, who doubles as EOCGA vice president, was speaking during a press briefing. The event was staged at the KMIII International Airport yesterday.

“I am pleased to report that the discussions were constructive and led to a peaceful resolution.

“Both parties acknowledged the situation and, after reflection and open dialogue, the Executive Committee of Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA) agreed to lift the suspension of Luca Fraser. The association further extended its apology to the athlete and the parent. All parties involved welcomed the spirit of reconciliation and moving forward in unity,” Dlamini said.

Following the lifting of Fraser’s suspension, the ESA has avoided legal costs, as confirmed by his mother, Lynette Russo.

“Due to the Eswatini Swimming Association’s (ESA) repeated refusal to engage in constructive dialogue, it was a condition of resolution that I be reimbursed for the legal expenses incurred in pursuit of justice for my son.

“However, in the spirit of reconciliation and for the long-term well-being of Luca, the integrity of the sport and in consideration of other young athletes, I, together with my family and the athlete have taken the difficult, but deliberate decision to forgo this compensation,” she said.

She further acknowledged the apology and urged authorities to investigate further the conduct in this matter.

“I take note of ESA’s formal acknowledgement of its procedural and administrative failures, their expressed apology and the full withdrawal of the charges and suspension brought against my son.
