MBABANE – Local film ‘A Dream’ continues to gain popularity in South Africa, having been selected to be a part of the upcoming Matsulu Film Festival.

The film was chosen this past weekend and Siphosethu Sibandze, the creative force behind the production, confirmed it will premiere at the reputable festival.

“All roads lead to Matsulu, where I will represent the premiere of the film,” he said.

In 2020, Sibandze joined a local production crew as a boom operator, spending two years working behind the scenes and mastering the fundamentals of filmmaking. This hands-on experience shaped his development in scriptwriting and directing, culminating in his first professional acting role in the 2022 short film ‘Lifa Lami’.

Since then, Siphosethu has built a diverse and growing portfolio both on-screen and behind the camera. He has directed and acted in several short films, including ‘Lifa Lami’ (screened at the 2022 European Film Festival), Blood Betrayal (2022), New Problem in Town (2023), and ‘Emuva’ (2023). His acting credits also include Mhlume Goats Race (2023), the demo advert Tsengi’ Data (2023) and the music video ‘Ekhaya’ (2023). In 2023, he featured in EswatiniBank’s national billboard campaign and was selected to take part in a cultural and political exchange programme in Germany, affirming his growing influence as a cultural ambassador. In 2024, Siphosethu wrote, directed, and starred in his debut feature film A Dream (Liphupho), which was screened at The Gables Movie Zone and the Bushfire School Festival, later winning Best Film at the Uhuru Film Festival in 2025.
