MBABANE – MTN Eswatini has announced yet another ground-breaking partnership that aims to educate families on the dangers of using the internet unguarded.

Through their social media pages, MTN announced their excitement about the new show. “We are excited about the launch of the Room of Safety programme by The MTN Group in partnership with MTV Base and Paramount Africa. This is an exciting time for parents, caregivers, educators, children and the whole family to educate themselves about the importance of safeguarding children from the dangers that come with overexposure to the internet,” read their caption.

The MTN group believes that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life and through their new series; they hope to impact online safety knowledge and continue to #HelpChildrenBeChildren.

The first instalment of the series by Shamiso and the MTN Group Executive Sustainability and Shared Value and Paramount Africa Senior Vice President and General Manager of Paramount Africa, Monde Twala, aired this past Sunday with new episodes that will air every Sunday at 3pm on MTV Base. Those who missed the premiere episode of the Room of Safety can catch up anytime on MTN’s YouTube channel.

“As children interact more with AI Chabots and virtual companions, risks like data collection, emotional over-reliance and harmful content exposure are growing. Teaching kids to engage critically with these tools is key and this is why internet safety matters,” read their YouTube description of the new programme.

The launch of this new programme will not be the first  as locals have been part erring with international shows. The Open Chats Podcast also secured a slot on the South African Broadcasting Corporation 2 (SABC 2) following their win for ‘Best Podcast of the Year’ at the South African Social Media Awards (SASMAs). The Open Chats Podcast has taken the country by storm with its candid and thought-provoking conversations, sparking discussions among young people on various topics.

With over 260 000 subscribers on YouTube, Mthokozisi ‘Mtho’ Methula and Sinothando ‘Sino’ Kama are the hosts of the Open Chats Podcast. The Open chats podcast debuted on Wednesday, April 9, at 5:30pm.

The hosts also discuss their experiences in podcasting compared to traditional media, saying that there is more freedom of speech on the podcast as people are free to voice out whatever they like, as it is unscripted.
