MANZINI – Recently, Eswatini transformed into a stage of elegance and precision as Nyanza Stables in Malkerns hosted the World Dressage and Seven Nations Challenge.
This landmark equestrian event, set against the kingdom’s picturesque landscapes, brought together riders from seven nations in a captivating display of athletic prowess, grace and international solidarity.
The event, a highlight of Eswatini’s equestrian calendar, showcased the timeless art of dressage, where a horse and rider perform intricate routines judged on technical precision and harmonious partnership.
As Kerry Deakin, Secretary General of the Equestrian Federation of Eswatini (EFE), noted, the World Dressage and Seven Nations Challenge was a highlight of the equestrian calendar, elevating the country’s profile on the world stage and leaving a legacy of sporting inspiration for years to come.
Competitors from as far as Mafutseni joined international participants, guided by a distinguished panel of judges, including Ground Jury Member, Mary Robins from the United Kingdom (UK) and Susen Humen from South Africa. As a judge, Robins has served at high-profile events, including the Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil, where she was part of the Appeal Committee.
Their expertise ensured a fair and rigorous evaluation of each performance, highlighting the discipline’s demanding standards.
Spectators, ranging from equestrian enthusiasts to curious locals, filled the venue, their enthusiasm reflecting Eswatini’s vibrant support for the sport. “A fair turnout was received, both from the equestrian community and local supporters eager to see their country host such a prestigious gathering,” Deakin observed, emphasising the event’s broad appeal.
Beyond the competition, the event offered a taste of Eswatini’s hospitality, with delicious Prego rolls delighting attendees as they marvelled at the seamless synergy between horse and rider.
For young riders and aspiring equestrians, the challenge was a rare opportunity to learn from world-class talent, while forging cross-border friendships. “For young riders and aspiring equestrians, the event presented an inspiring opportunity to learn from the best, while fostering cross-border friendships and sporting spirit,” Deakin emphasised.
Meanwhile, the 2025 Eswatini national champion in the senior class, Sarah Fawcett, stole the spotlight with her dashing horse, Desert Fantasy.
Her victory was a testament to skill and dedication, earning her heartfelt congratulations from the EFE. “Congratulations Sarah. We look forward to next year,” shared the EFE, already anticipating the event’s return.
It was further mentioned that the success of the World Dressage and Seven Nations Challenge would not have been possible without the generous support of sponsors, including Grant Thornton, Swazi Trac, Kitwe Hydraulics, Augusta Enterprises, Benke Lifestyle and the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council.
