MBABANE – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted provisional approval for Somhlolo National Stadium to host international games, but has reportedly withheld full certification due to a series of key demands.
The national arena, which was banned from hosting ‘Category A’ matches for both CAF and FIFA in 2019, received its temporary approval after a recent inspection. This development offers significant relief for the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) and local clubs participating in continental competitions, who were previously forced to secure alternative venues outside the country.
A statement released by CAF on the approved venues confirms that the national stadium is among those given the green light, albeit on a temporary basis. This means Royal Leopard and Nsingizini Hotspurs will be able to host their upcoming inter-clubs competitions at the soccer ‘Mecca’.
