MBABANE – Shaka iLembe has created 20 000 jobs with an investment of E400 million in South African arts and emaSwati are part of the investment.
Since season one, over 8 000 jobs have been directly created on set. Season two scaled up dramatically adding over 16 000 more job opportunities spanning crew cast extras, artisans and beyond.
With such a scale, this production has become a major driver of employment and industry upliftment.
Shaka iLembe reached unprecedented investment levels, season two reportedly carried a budget of around E400 million. This level of funding shows the show’s role as one of the most ambitious and high stakes creative investments in South African television.
Over 100 emaSwati have been featured on Shaka iLembe as extras and lead actors.
Eswatini talent featured on Shaka iLembe includes actors Setsabile Sithole as Queen Lojiba and Sikhanyiso Sithole as Princess Hletjiwe along with Ayanda Ginindza as King Somhlolo, Thobejane Magagula as Prince Ngemu and Alex Fakudze as Umnganiwemakhosi in season two.
Additionally, Eswatini’s Sandile Makhanya, who is featured as an on set photographer.
