MBABANE – A Home Affairs employee implicated in the Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala national ID saga has made a confession to the police, allegedly naming all individuals involved in the fraudulent scheme.

The officer, whose name has been withheld, was called in for questioning by police investigators and provided a detailed statement of her involvement.

This follows a previous report that her arrest was imminent.

According to the confession, the officer said she was approached by a relative from Motshane, who then introduced her to Matlala.

She revealed that the relative also reportedly provided her with the ID details of Matlala’s alleged Eswatini mother, Christinah Thembi Shongwe, whose name was to be used to manufacture the fraudulent document.

The employee highlighted that Matlala applied for the ID on February 12, 2024, and it was issued the next day.

He collected it on February 20, 2024. It was disclosed that Matlala did not personally come to fetch the document, but a middleman who facilitated the entire deal came instead.

The employee further alleged that a lot of people were involved in the fraudulent scheme, including an officer from the Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP).

In her confession, she reportedly outlined how each person involved was compensated for their role in the job.
