MADRID – Lucas Ribeiro Costa has officially signed for a new club after recently announcing his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Brazilian attacker has been unveiled as Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa’s newest signing.

Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa announced yesterday afternoon they had reached an agreement with the player on a one season deal.

“Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa has reached an agreement with Lucas Ribeiro for the incorporation of the player to the culturalist discipline.

“Lucas Ribeiro Costa (Saint Helena, 09/10/1998) is an attacking footballer, who has developed his football career in countries such as Brazil, France and Belgium. In his last stage, he played for South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundows FC.

“He arrives in León as a free agent with a one-season deal. From Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa we welcome Lucas Ribeiro to our club, wishing him the greatest success in his new stage in León,” the LaLiga 2 side said in a statement.

The 26-year-old joins the Spanish outfit following a drawn-out transfer saga with the Betway Premiership champions, putting pen to paper with the LaLiga 2 side as a free agent.

Earlier in the transfer window, the reigning PSL Player of the Year declared himself a free agent via the Lassana Diarra ruling, after Ka Bo Yellow allegedly rejected multiple bids from various clubs for Ribeiro following his impressive showing at the FIFA Club World Cup.

While the dispute regarding owed compensation continues to rumble on between Sundowns and the player, Ribeiro’s high-profile lawyer, Jean-Louis Dupont, has ensured that he is able to continue his career elsewhere, paving the way for him to sign for Leonesa.

According to Transfermarkt, he becomes the club’s ninth permanent acquisition of the window.
