LOZITHA – His Majesty King Mswati III expressed his excitement about the E600 000 prize incentive for a hole-in-one during this year’s King’s Golf Cup.
The King revealed this at the 2025 King’s Golf Cup, held at the Lozitha Royal Palace last night. The event was attended by Her Majesty Indlovukazi, Prime Minister Russel Dlamini, the royal family—including Emakhosikati—and tournament sponsors.
The king stated that the King’s Golf Cup does more than showcase golfing skills; it uplifts the country’s communities. He noted with satisfaction that the proceeds continue to support vulnerable groups, encapsulating the principle that sport should enrich players, spectators and society alike.
“We encourage this generosity to inspire other sporting bodies to prioritise caddies, well-wishers and local communities,” the King said.
The head of State disclosed that in order to compete on a global stage, the country must professionalise golf by establishing academies or collaborating with neighbouring countries.
“We can nurture talents to rival the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Jeeno Thikiful, the world’s top male and female golfers, respectively,” he said.
He also mentioned that the country’s lush landscape and pristine greens present untapped investment potential, positioning Eswatini as a future golfing hub.
The King commended the sponsors for their increased commitment, which is crucial to the vision of hosting the King’s Golf Cup in the country. He called the E600 000 hole-in-one prize a thrilling incentive and expressed his anticipation to test his own swing in pursuit of it soon.
Furthermore, the king praised the increased prize pool, noting that this year’s first prize now exceeds E240 000, which demonstrates this ambition and encourages participation across all ages.
“As I remarked last year; ‘lena yimali loyitfola ngekudlala ngesagila nje!’ (Here is money earned through skillful play!)”
It is worth noting that a hole-in-one in golf, also known as an ace, is when a player hits the ball from the tee box and it goes directly into the hole with that single shot. It is one of the most celebrated and difficult feats in the game.
