MBABANE – The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has made it clear that it will not be part of the preparations or proceedings of the welcome event for former Ngwempisi Member of Parliament (MP) Mthandeni Dube.
Police said they had no business meddling in family or community gatherings, but confirmed that the organising committee had approached them for advice on the event.
Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer, Assistant Superintendent Nosipho Mnguni, explained that while the police were consulted, their role was limited to offering guidance.
“We have no business meddling in family gatherings, but because they came to us seeking advice, we did just that, advising them on what would be of best interest to all who would be concerned and possible consequences,” she said.
The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Muzi Mhlanga, revealed that residents had expressed fears that the event might be hijacked by individuals with ulterior motives.
He said this prompted them to approach the police for assistance in ensuring order and safety.
“At some point, we even considered cancelling the event because of the possible scenarios that could spoil what is supposed to be a prayer in good faith,” Mhlanga said.
He added that the event would proceed following community insistence, with the programme kept short to avoid unnecessary incidents.

Residents ready to lend a hand to ex-MP
MBABANE – Residents of Ngwempisi Inkhundla say they are ready to lend a hand to former Member of Parliament (MP) Mthandeni Dube, should he be tasked with community service as part of his parole conditions.
Chairman of the Organising Committee for Dube’s welcome event, Muzi Mhlanga, disclosed that the community had expressed strong willingness to support him in this regard.
“Residents have shown keen interest in being part of whatever community service Dube has been tasked with and they are willing to assist in every way possible,” said Mhlanga.
While it has not been confirmed whether community service is part of Dube’s parole, Mhlanga said residents viewed it as an opportunity to work together on development projects that would uplift the community.
“Community service would not only benefit him but also unite residents around common initiatives,” he said.
