MBABANE – Just last week, one of them felt embarrassed by the other and the two went on to clash.
However, yesterday told a different story, as the pair shook hands and smiled, as if they had never been in disagreement.
This is the story of the Minister for Education and Training, Owen Nxumalo, and Principal Secretary (PS), Nanikie Mnisi, who appear to have kissed and made up following last week’s incident.
The signs that peace might have been restored between the two became evident yesterday during the Lubombo Regional Teachers Awards, held at the Tum’s George Hotel in Manzini.
During the event, the usual government protocol was observed and the minister had the attendees in stitches when he referred to the PS as ‘gorgeous’.
“It feels so good that handsome is standing next to his gorgeous PS,” the minister said.
With the attendees screaming and laughing, the minister then touched on their much-publicised feud, acknowledging that their behaviour had not been good, as they were expected to conduct themselves professionally and not allow the ministry to collapse.
The minister is said to have admitted that their conflict stemmed from certain things that were not done in a proper manner within the ministry.
He then assured the attendees that all the issues had been resolved and that all was now well between them.
“The minister showed remorse and acknowledged that he is more like a parent and his duty is to ensure that when the roof of the home collapses and rains come, he becomes responsible,” said one of the attendees.
When called for comment, the PS asked not to comment. On the other hand, the minister said he was in a meeting and would revert.
