This week, Style has secured a style exclusive that takes us across the border, bringing you an intimate look at one of the hottest names in African dance music. In the electrifying world where genres rapidly shift and evolve, a new name is commanding attention: Jazzwrld formally known as Jazzwrx. The producer, known for his elevating ‘3-step’ sound, is not only packing dance floors but is also quickly building an international brand, all while staying true to the fundamental hard work of the music craft.

Jazzwrld, whose real name is Kamohelo Monese, opened about his journey, his creative process and his ambitions to expand his ‘Outdoor Worx’ event into Eswatini and other African nations next year.

A Sound that is ‘emotive and danceable’

For those new to the movement, Jazzwrld describes himself as an “extraordinary dance music producer” whose sound is distinct and yet familiar.

“I’m known for my elevating 3-step sound distinct from but complementary to house. It brings a soulful energy that’s both emotive and danceable,” he explained.

This deep personal connection to music began in his childhood home. “It all started when I was a little boy. I grew up in a home where music was a big thing. My family loved house music and that’s where my deep personal connection with music began.”

Early in his career, Jazzwrld was guided into the industry by a critical mentor. “Early in my career, I was fortunate to have a mentor, Macfowlen, who helped me shape my musical direction. He continues to offer valuable advice and opportunities that guide me in the industry.”

Despite being a consistent name on booking lists, the producer revealed he is relatively new to the professional scene.

“I’ve been in the music industry for less than a year and I’ve learned that music needs commitment, dedication and passion. I love making music it has been my passion since I was young.”

Being a highly sought-after artist means a busy schedule, yet Jazzwrld finds energy in connecting with his audience. He admitted that the constant work “can be exhausting, but I love travelling, meeting and connecting with my supporters. It gives me joy and fuels my energy. My team also makes sure I take breaks when needed.”

In a demonstration of professional integrity, the producer maintained that every booking is treated with equal respect. “No, we prioritise and respect every gig. There’s no gig bigger than another we go by ‘first come, first serve’ when accepting shows.”
