MANANGA – The Royal Eswatini Sugar (RES) Charity Golf Tournament had 27 sponsors for the 2025 edition, with Luphohlo Commodities pumping in E100 000.
RES hosts an annual charity golf fundraising tournament to help local communities.
This drive was initiated by the RES Managing Director (MD), Nick Jackson, in 2014 to provide a platform for RES business partners, specifically suppliers, to collaborate in corporate giving.
It was shared that the tournament has matured over the years, becoming an eagerly awaited event on the Eswatini golf calendar, growing from a one-day to a two-day affair in 2022 due to the increasing response rate.
Sharing her sentiments on the tournament was RES Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Manager, Phindile Dlamini, who shared that this was their 11th year hosting the charity event.
“This is our 11th year and over the years, we’ve mainly raised funds with our partners – our vendors and suppliers – who, you find, operate with RES, but don’t have a platform to reach out to the less privileged,” remarked Dlamini.
She added that as RES, they provide the platform where, over the course of two days, they raise funds and put them towards a good cause.
Dlamini also spoke about the growth of each edition, citing that they have seen growth in the past couple of editions and yesterday a total of 32 companies helped in the realisation of this year’s edition of the charity tournament.
Furthermore, the golf proceeds were said to have facilitated potable water in the region for 13 communities, serving approximately 4 178 homesteads.
Last year’s proceeds benefitted Maphiveni Community, which has 100 homesteads, with a solar-powered water system and Shoka at Lomahasha, where RES rehabilitated an existing borehole water system servicing 78 homesteads, all valued at E310 000.
