MANZINI – In a shocking turn of events, a well-known and seasoned prosecutor (55) has been arrested in connection with the murder of his employee aged 47.

The deceased Mozambican national, Anthony Meluleki, who was working as a security at the prosecutor’s business in the outskirts of the city of Manzini, was found with a gaping wound on his head at Moneni on Saturday.

The name of the prosecutor is known to this publication, but it is currently withheld because he has not appeared before a court of law.

According to a source close to the matter, the prosecutor, who is also a businessman operating a garage in the easterly outskirts of Manzini, is alleged to have played a role in the death of his security guard, who was employed at his garage.

What makes the case particularly striking is that the prosecutor himself, was the one who first reported the death to the police. The source revealed that on Saturday, the prosecutor, who resides at Liqhaga Flats in Manzini, approached the Manzini Police Station and reported that on the same day at around 11am, he discovered his security guard lying unconscious under a bed in a caravan at his business establishment.

The source said the police went to the scene and found the deceased with assault bruises and a gaping wound on the head. He said the prosecutor’s security guard’s body was lying in a pool of blood which came from the gaping head injury and was rushed to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital, where he was certified dead upon arrival.

After that, he said the police launched an investigation into the death of the 47-year-old man. He said as investigations unfolded, police sources revealed that leads began pointing to the prosecutor himself as someone who could assist the law enforcers with information on the circumstances surrounding the death.

As a result, the source said on Monday, the prosecutor was asked to assist the police with information relating to the death of his security guard and was subsequently arrested and charged with the murder of the 47-year-old man.

According to the source, preliminary findings suggested that there may have been an altercation between Ngwenya and the deceased on the day of the incident. In fact, he alleged that it is suspected that a confrontation arose after the deceased purportedly arrived at work in a questionable state of sobriety.
