MBABANE – The ESRIC Darts League is ratcheting up the intensity, with six standout players seizing the spotlight in a captivating series of matches held this past Saturday.
The action unfolded at the Gwamile Vocational and Commercial Training Institute (VOCTIM) in Kwaluseni, Matsapha. The top performers included Norman Mhlanga of Eswatini Royal Insurance Corporation (ESRIC); Simon Maseko and Andile Shabangu from Scorpions; Elvis Shongwe representing Remnants; and Green Spears’ Bonkhe Madzinane, who completed the list alongside the ever-reliable veteran Friday Mncina.
A key metric of high-level darts is the maximum score achievable with three darts. This score is achieved when all three darts land in the triple 20 segment.
Scorpions player Maseko delivered another notable performance, achieving the highest single-game closing score of 109. He was also the second-fastest player to wrap up a game, requiring just 15 darts. However, he was pipped to the fastest finish by veteran Abraham Ndzinisa, now playing for Zebras, who finished his game in a blistering 14 darts.
League leaders Scorpions underlined their status as the team to beat. They cruised to a dominant 15-6 victory over Elangeni Vipers before completely dismantling Green Roses in a stunning 20-0 whitewash. Following their impressive weekend showing, Scorpions comfortably hold pole position in the latest standings with 30 points from 10 games played.
Meanwhile, Green Arrows remain hot on their heels. They delivered a crushing 17-3 defeat to ESRIC before experiencing a narrow 10-11 loss to Zebras. Green Arrows occupy second place in the charts, having amassed 27 points from their 10 matches.
