MANZINI – Super League outfit Moyeni Supersport celebrated the rewards of their hard work this week, earning a trophy, gold medals and a E11 000 prize purse.

This follows their victory in the Southern Trading Mafutseni Promotion League. The accolades were presented during the league’s prize presentation event, which was staged at the Manzini Regional Football Association (MRFA) head offices, Liqhaga House, two days ago. As this publication previously reported that a total of E50 000 was pumped into the league for the previous season.

Runners-up Jubela were awarded silver medals and E8 000, while third-placed Khamatfo walked away with E5 000 and bronze medals. All 15 teams in the league received an incentive, with the lowest award being E1 000. The occasion was attended by team representatives, the Manzini FA Executive Committee and the league’s sponsor, Southern Trading. Trade Marketing Manager Qinsile Maphanga spoke highly of the standard of play within the league.

“I can attest to the improved standard of play in this league. I used to go watch some games at some of the playing grounds and was truly impressed. We really appreciate being part of Mafutseni, personally I have learnt that despite the ups and downs that come with football, we are a family. I appreciate that Supersport was able to progress,” she said.

Maphanga further called upon the other teams to throw their support behind Supersport, as they now campaign in the higher-tier Super League Division.

“They now represent Mafutseni as a whole and I ask that we all give them support. Let us rally behind them even in their games,” Kunene added.

Meanwhile, MRFA Chairman Vusie Hall expressed his gratitude to Southern Trading for their continued backing of the league.

“We laud the sponsorship from Southern Trading over the years. It was not the first time they sponsored the league. We also commend the behaviour of teams and the league committee as well for their dedication in ensuring all games were played. We also appreciate your patience as this presentation was delayed. We hope this relationship will continue even in the near future,” Hall remarked.

Additionally, Mafutseni Promotion League Chairman Patrick Simelane praised the performance and conduct of the teams last season.

“Gratitude goes to the league’s teams for their good behaviour last season. We hope they continue from there. We hope and believe Southern Trading will continue its relationship with our league. Supersport club’s achievements are a testament to what your sponsorship has produced. Even now the league is very competitive,” he said.

Supersport’s winning pedigree was recently on display during the MRFA’s ‘Last Man Standing’ tournament in June, where they defeated Kwaluseni Rebels 2-1 in the semi-finals before edging Fairview Chiefs 1-0 in a tightly-contested final.

The newly-promoted side is expected to face Ntondozi Celtics in the quarter-finals of the 2025/26 Ingwenyama Cup, which is sponsored by the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF), next weekend. The team boasts at least four ex-Premier League stars, including Wandile ‘Skosh’ Shabangu, Thabo ‘Marikana’ Vilakati, Sifiso Mazibuko and Phinda ‘Phindrix’ Dlamini.
