MBABANE – After just nine months of being active, Usutu Athletics Club (UAC) has set ambitious targets for the coming year.

These goals, which will ensure the club’s presence is felt in the road, were disclosed by its Spokesperson, Sabelo Masuku, on Saturday, 22 November 2025.

Masuku made a bold statement as the Athletics Eswatini (AE) road calendar came to a close with the inaugural MTN MoMo Mbabane Marathon.

The road running calender has abruptly ended, in November instead of December this year.

This is so as the Mankayane Highway Half-Marathon has been cancelled this year.

UAC spokesman said they are happy with the club’s nine months of activity, noting that their serious participation in national competitions started with the Lubombo Marathon, which was held in April.

“We have definitely established our footing and, as a team, we want to continue growing by leaps and bounds. We want to compete in every competition in the country and are also looking to leave our footprint beyond the country’s borders,” Masuku said.

He disclosed that they are planning to attend TWK Assegaai 3-in-1 Marathon to held in Piet Retief, South Africa, on Sunday February 22, 2026.

“We didn’t excel in the 42km but in the half-marathon and 10km, we did well, while we were just walking the 5km as our main runners did not attend due to certain commitments,” the spokesperson further said.

“We’re here to compete, and we have set out targets already: first places in the races or nothing below the podium finishes,” UAC stated.

As road running goes into a brief rest, Masuku said they will have an end-of-year team-building party in early December to relax a bit, but they will return timely to prepare for the Resolution Run, set for Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary.

Meanwhile, the team is composed of workers from Montigny, who is also the major sponsor of the team, police officers, and teachers from Bhunya, among others.
