Red cards fly as Nsingizini topple Sea Birds

NHLANGANO – Defending champions Nsingizini Hotspurs toppled Manzini Sea Birds in a fiery MTN Premier League top-of-the-table clash yesterday, ending the visitors’ five-game flawless run with a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

The match official, Referee Celumusa Siphepho, was forced to dismiss one player from each side barely 30 minutes into the encounter, confirming the intensity of the high-stakes meeting.

Hotspurs’ Captain, Neliswa ‘Tiger’ Dlamini, provided the only goal of the game with a superb long-range strike in the second half. The narrow win ensures the Mandla Qhogi-led charges claimed the top spot in the league for the first time this season, extending their own unbeaten run to three games.

Meanwhile, Friday Myeni’s side dropped to second place, a position they may lose as other fixtures are played today. They remain winless against ‘Insingi Yezulu’ in seven meetings.

The match began with high excitement. The visitors’ Philani ‘Mkasabuli’ Mkhonto had an immediate opportunity to grab the lead within seconds, but his effort went wide of the target following a sharp counter-attack. Following that initial burst, scoring chances became scarce, but the atmosphere grew heated.

The central point of the mounting tension was a duel between Sinenkhosi ‘China’ Dlamini and Mthokozisi Gwebu. Their antagonism drew the dissatisfaction of both technical benches, leading to Gwebu becoming the first player shown a yellow card after just 15 minutes.

The tensions spilt over just before the half-hour mark. A mini-skirmish erupted, with players from both teams engaging in a physical confrontation. Although members of the technical staff quickly rushed in to attempt to restore order, they could not prevent the referee issuing dismissals.

After an almost three-minute stoppage due to the drama, Sea Birds’ Gcinayinkhosi Dlamini was shown a straight red card by Referee Siphepho in the 28^th minute. Moments later, Hotspurs’ Kingsley Kwakyi received his second booking, resulting in a red card, leaving both opponents with 10 men each.

The host side pressure almost paid off in the 38^th minute, but Joel Madondo’s strike from close range was blocked by goalkeeper Lindani ‘Kitso’ Mtsetfwa. The physical first half ended goalless.
