MANZINI – Sithobela Sharks opened the Eswatini Handball Association (EHA) Championships with commanding back-to-back victories.
The action-packed tournament unfolded yesterday at Bosco Skills Centre, where the Sharks immediately stamped their authority with a thrilling 5–4 win over Siyafundza.
The match was high-tempo from start to finish, with the Sharks’ attacking transitions and fast breaks proving decisive in the closing stages.
Their confidence carried into their second fixture, where they battled past a resilient Oak Hills side to secure a 4–3 victory. Despite facing intense pressure late in the match, they held firm to complete a perfect start to their campaign.
Mhlambanyatsi also produced one of the standout performances of the day, outclassing Bhunya 4–1 through structured build-up play and clinical finishing. Their strong defensive stance forced several turnovers, giving them early control of the match.
Mphelandzaba, on the other hand, delivered the most explosive attacking display of the opening round, defeating Big Bend 9–6 in a high-scoring affair that kept spectators on their feet. Big Bend, despite the loss, showed flashes of creativity, but struggled to contain Mphelandzaba’s relentless offensive pressure.
Oak Hills, although narrowly losing to the Sharks, displayed impressive teamwork and tactical awareness. Rain throughout the week had disrupted their training schedule, but they still managed to push the tournament favourites to the edge.
Siyafundza also battled with determination, especially in their opener against the Sharks, showing that they are well-prepared for a long tournament run.
The opening day showcased rising youth talent, well-coached teams and competitive intensity, setting high expectations for the remaining rounds of the Eswatini Handball Association’s flagship championship.
