MBABANE – A new dawn!

Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa officially led EOCGA in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, strengthening a partnership built on decades of friendship between the two nations.

This was revealed by EOCGA on their official Facebook page, where they stated that the ceremony reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing the Olympic Movement, creating athlete development opportunities and enhancing collaboration between the organisations.

The president expressed deep appreciation for the warm hospitality shown by President Eric Lin, the Board of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee and acknowledged the presence of the Lesotho National Olympic Committee, who are valued partners in sport.

“Also present during the signing was EOCGA CEO Maxwell Jele and Treasurer Zakhele Zulu. A new chapter begins—one that promises growth, exchange and greater opportunities for our athletes and institutions,” reads part of the statement.

On the other hand, EOCGA also celebrated another historic milestone for the African continent, where the local association took to their Facebook page once again to express their pride.

“Africa’s influence on the global sporting stage continues to grow and Eswatini proudly stands with the continent in this moment of progress.

“The Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association extends warm congratulations to team Uganda and to NOC-Uganda President, Doctor Donald Rukare, on his election as President of Commonwealth Sport during the general assembly,” shared EOCGA.

They further stated that his appointment marks a historic milestone, as he becomes the first African to lead the Commonwealth Sport movement—arriving just months after Zimbabwe’s Kirsty Coventry, who made history as the first African to assume the presidency of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

“For the first time ever, the world’s two major multi-sport organisations are guided by African leadership. This moment reflects the continent’s growing capability, vision and unity. EOCGA wishes Doctor Rukare every success as he embarks on this significant chapter,” continued EOCGA.

They concluded by mentioning that his election is a testament to the trust and confidence placed in him by all 74 member nations and territories; an inspiration to the entire Commonwealth sporting family.
