MBABANE – The 2025 edition of the National Disability Sports Day was full of smiles, joy and inclusivity on all levels.

Over 300 pupils and adults with disabilities gathered at the Mavuso Sports Centre yesterday for the 2025 edition of the National Disability Sports Day, transforming the venue into a vibrant celebration of ability, resilience and togetherness. The event, organised by Athletics Eswatini (AE) in partnership with the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC), drew an impressive line-up of dignitaries.

This included Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Thulisile Dladla, ESRC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Darius Dlomo, legendary athlete Absalom ‘Scara’ Thindwa and Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Under Secretary Mzwandile Mthethwa.

Adding a splash of humour to the proceedings were the beloved comedy duo Gogo and S’lwane, whose infectious energy kept laughter ringing across the field throughout the day.

At its heart, the day was a powerful reminder that every child matters. As AE declared, the occasion embodied the true spirit of inclusion and the ongoing fight against discrimination.

Hamilton Mhlanga, a decorated AE coach, described the atmosphere as nothing short of beautiful.  “The essence of today was inclusion and that was perfectly embodied. We saw children taking part in 60m and 100m sprints – visually impaired runners competing alongside those who can see, wheelchair users racing with determination and our youngest athletes enjoying Kids Athletics events,” he said.

Mhlanga reserved special praise for the teachers and facilitators who guided the participants with patience and creativity.  “My personal highlight was the sheer joy on the children’s faces – the smiles, the laughter, the pure happiness as they played,” he added.
