Her professional drive is fuelled by a deep-seated commitment to arts education and the protective legislation surrounding artists.
PASSIONATE ABOUT THE ARTS
“I am a product of such a privilege and I wish that other young girls and boys can be afforded such an opportunity in the earliest stages of their education. I am also passionate about the arts and legislature that protects and nurtures artists.”

She describes her aesthetic as Afro chic. “I lean towards more elegant and tailored pieces. I love bold colours too”.Her style complements her soulful sound, presenting a complete artistic identity.
THE FESTIVE SEASON OUTLOOK
The festive season is upon Velemseni, presenting a mix of high-profile performances and private bookings for the artist. “Festive is looking great, last week we performed at the Temvelo Awards, where the Prime Minister (PM) had some encouraging words to say about me and my music. It is moments like this that propel us to reach greater heights. I am fortunate to have a few private bookings ahead.” The praise from the PM, who described her artistry as both mature and inspiring, further underscores her growing recognition as a national treasure On Christmas Day, Velemseni will be performing at Emseni Gardens during their decadent Christmas Lunch Buffet.
Velemseni’s vision board is a testament to her high aspirations. “If I were to describe my vision board, it would be ambitious, colourful, soulful and inspired” she details. She confirms a year of considerable progress. I have definitely had an amazing year and I have accomplished a few major things”. One considerable progress is achieving more presence in South Africa having moved there earlier this year, another being performing at the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival that was held in September. That was a pinnacle moment in her career. She appreciates SBJOJ team and audience for receiving her with open arms.
Looking towards the new year, she offers practical and powerful advice to aspiring creators.
vision and dreams
“For next year, I would say your vision and dreams for yourself should scare you a little bit. Dream big and tunnel vision your way to it. Alternatively, it is also important to be flexible and master a certain level of detachment. If life doesn’t go the way you planned, learn to pivot and explore other parts of your being. Life is long, you are not meant to only be one thing.”
Velemseni attributes her career achievements to a clear understanding of sacrifice and the power of collective effort. “I would say I have achieved some successes in my career and how I achieved that is sacrifice”. In order to master something or grow in it, you have to give of yourself. That could be time, effort and attention. Another reason for her success is collaboration. She believes in working with other people so much and it has done wonders for her impact, reach and growth.
The year has been marked by successful collaborative musical ventures across different genres. “This year, I have collaborated with Cool Affair, I also worked with Sibu Manzini on his EP ‘Grace’ a great offering from the Dance Music space. Her continued collaboration with dance music artists like Sibu Manzini and her recent work on the single ‘Indlela’ reflects her ability to flow effortlessly between genres, adding her unique soulful signature to varied musical landscapes.
Looking forward, Velemseni is set on continuing her musical journey with great momentum. Plans are already in motion for her new album, scheduled for release in 2026.
She concludes with well wishes for the year ahead: “I extend my sincerest well wishes to everyone for a year filled with prosperity, good health and the courage to pursue your greatest ambitions. May the coming year be a period of profound growth and success for us all.”
