MBABANE – Log leaders Nsingizini Hotspurs have been heavily criticised for their ‘toilet dash’ celebration against Manzini Wanderers.

In the 4-0 rout of Manzini Wanderers at Mavuso Sports Centre this past Sunday, Nsingizini’s exciting midfielder Thubelihle Mavuso and his teammates celebrated in an unusual manner, mimicking someone desperately trying to reach a bathroom in time.

This is fondly known as a ‘toilet celebration’ and was widely interpreted as ridiculing Wanderers.

Across different online media platforms, especially Facebook, most fans heavily criticised Nsingizini, claiming they were mocking an established and respected brand (Wanderers).

“ This is bad for the sport; they showed absolutely no respect for their opponents. It’s unacceptable. Even Dibu Martinez was punished for his celebration at FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) World Cup. It shows zero sportsmanship from the boys.

“No wonder they’ll play Eswatini for ever (sic) while they have skill and talent to make it in foreign countries,” reads one of the posts.

However, others were of the view that there was nothing wrong with the celebration.

“It’s their victory; they are entitled to celebrate in whatever way,” reads one of the posts from a Wanderers fan.

Notably, this celebration was once made viral by Malawi international Gabadinho Mhango, who now plays for South Africa’s Betway Premiership side Richards Bay FC.
