MBABANE – Mozambique top division side Costa do Sol have reportedly made a formal bid for Nsingizini Hotspurs and Sihlangu star Kwakhe Thwala.
Yesterday, this publication exclusively reported about the gifted and versatile full-back’s imminent departure from Nsingizini, possibly in this January transfer window. He was noticeably missing when the reigning MTN Premier League champions and current log leaders survived a scare from Sisonkhe to win 1-0 this past weekend.
Coach Mandla Qhogi, in a post-match interview, had said the player was granted ‘special leave’ to prepare for his exit.
It has since emerged that Costa do Sol, the most successful team in Mozambique since that country’s national independence, are frontrunners in the chase for the former Mbabane Swallows star’s signature. It was gathered from impeccable sources that the international outfit want the player on board as early as the second week of January 2026. He has been offered a salary of up to E22 000 on top of winning, goals and assists bonuses, as per classified information from sources close to the international side.
“While the perks for the player look exciting, the major hurdle in the move might be the transfer fee that is being offered to the club. To Nsingizini, they are offering less than E30 000, which is too little,” shared the source.
The information from the sources close to the player was also corroborated by this publication’s sources in Mozambique.
Nsingizini Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Banele Ngobe said nothing had reached his office by yesterday. However, this publication understands that the bid was made shortly before Christmas. It could not be immediately ascertained if Nsingizini will accept the offer.
Meanwhile, there was no response from a questionnaire sent to the Mozambican side at the time of compiling this report. The publication wanted responses to several questions that included the deadline for concluding negotiations before the team pivoted to alternative targets. This publication also wanted to establish if the foreign side have already entered personal terms negotiations with the player’s representatives.
Notably, Thwala had previously been linked to Zambian powerhouse ZESCO United. However, the deal collapsed, with reports suggesting his price tag had been placed too high for the Ndola giants. His name further made headlines for a possible move to South Africa’s Betway Premiership outfit Durban City. However, that deal was also aborted.
