MBABANE – Moneni Pirates have moved to quash rumours surrounding the absence of midfielder Phila Dlamini, confirming they are fully aware of the player’s current situation.
The clarification follows local reports suggesting Dlamini had absconded from team duties. Rumours circulated that the midfielder had cleared his belongings from the clubhouse in Manzini under unclear circumstances.
Dlamini’s absence was noted during the Sea Robbers’ 3-0 victory over Ubombo Sugar. He was also sidelined for the goalless draw against capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders at Mavuso, though that specific absence was attributed to a match suspension.
The midfielder recently made headlines for his high-profile marriage to Buhlevetive Mamba, a well-known figure in local football circles often associated with Rangers FC. Dlamini re-joined the Mathews ‘Chaka Chaka’ Mandlazi-led side in 2023 following a stint with Nsingizini Hotspurs.
Last season, Dlamini was a pivotal figure in helping the club secure the runners-up spot in the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF) sponsored Ingwenyama Cup. His trophy cabinet also includes the Momo Cup, which he won during his time with Shiselweni-based outfit ‘Insingizi Yezulu’.
Speaking to this publication yesterday, Pirates’ Public Relations Officer (PRO) Meluleki ‘Sluga’ Simelane explained that Dlamini had been granted official leave to focus on his wedding.
“It is important to clarify that Phila has not absconded nor left the club. As a married player, it is natural that he is now staying with his wife rather than at the clubhouse, particularly in the immediate wake of his wedding,” Simelane said.
The spokesperson went on to offer the club’s formal blessing to the player.
“As a club, we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Phila and wish him all the best as he begins this new chapter in his life,” he added.
The Pirates squad is expected to resume training on Monday following a brief recess. This follows the Premier League of Eswatini’s (PLE) decision to postpone all fixtures until next weekend.
