MBABANE – Zambia’s ZESCO United have slashed ticket prices for Sunday’s crucial CAF Confederation Cup clash against South African giants Kaizer Chiefs at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
The upcoming fixture is set to be one of the most affordable in the competition’s history. VIP tickets are priced at E168 (200 Zambian Kwacha), while standard terrace seating is available for just E25 (30 Zambian Kwacha).
In contrast, recent preliminary rounds saw higher entry fees; Uganda’s NEC FC charged approximately E46 for their match against Nairobi United, while Eswatini’s Royal Leopard set a E40 flat rate for their encounter with AS Maniema at Somhlolo National Stadium.
Fans can purchase tickets at ZESCO Customer Service Centres across Ndola, Luanshya, Kitwe, Chingola, Mufulira, and Kalulushi.
ZESCO, the reigning ABSA Cup champions, currently anchor Group D with zero points following narrow defeats to Egyptian sides Zamalek (1-0) and Al Masry (3-2). To revive their campaign, the ‘Team Ya Ziko’ have bolstered their squad with two new signings. These are Derrick Obame, a Gabonese midfielder and Emmanuel Manda, who is Zambian forward.
Notably, ZESCO are led by Sihlangu Captain Lindo ‘Bhabhalazi’ Mkhonta, who retains the armband for the Zambian outfit.
The Zambian government has intervened to ensure a partisan atmosphere. Chingola Acting District Commissioner Honourable Stephen Moonze is actively rallying supporters and has personally purchased 50 tickets to boost attendance.
Notable, Kaizer Chiefs command a huge following here in Eswatini but these fans usually watch only the Soweto giants when they play at home. The Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs is watched live in Johannesburg by hundreds of emaSwati each year.
